Hi,
As many of you will know, some carriers employ what's called a "walled garden" approach to their network, which means that users can only access certain "approved" sites. As you've probably guessed, "walled gardens" usually exclude free download sites like MobileRated.com because they want their users to pay for everything. Telus (Canada) is one example of a carrier with a "walled garden".
Other carriers don't support Java applications at all, instead having opted for a alternative system called BREW. Again, the main driver seems to be that BREW is a closed system, and users must pay for all content. Verizon and Alltel (both U.S.A) use BREW.
Fortunately, we DO support at least 90% of the world's carriers, and the trend seems to be towards more openness. It seems probable that virtually all carriers will open up over the next few years.
In the meantime, we'd like to help our users by compiling a list of all of the carriers employing "walled gardens" and BREW. This is where we'd love to have your help to identify them - please post back here, listing the carrier name (and country), and if they're a "walled garden" carrier, or use BREW, or if they are incompatible with MobileRated.com for any other reason.
Thank you!
