How do I install jar/jad files on Samsung SGH-F480 via PC?

Hi.

I've just downloaded a few Java games from this site (jar and jad files) and transferred them to my Samsung SGH-F480 device.

Now what do I do with them in order to install the games on this phone? When I try to simply open them from their location on the device, I get a messge saying that the file type is not supported...

Any assistance on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I've also searched other forums etc for any information about the F480. There's lots of discussion but it doesn't sound like anyone has found a way yet. The basic problem is that in addition to the usual "locking" that Samsung does, they've also made the directories that the JAD and JAR files go into hidden.

Ive heard that you need some form of unlocking code to gain access to the apps section of the phone memory. If anyone knows this code, please tell us!!

i believe almost every samsung phone have the same problem of unable to open the files to play. can anyone tell us how to get this code for unlocking the phone? by the way, my phone is samsung U800 and trying open all sorts of game... LOL =P

i have a SGH-i616 blackjack 2, i downloaded the .JAR . save it on the pc, transfered it to my storage card, i open it, the game works great.

i have found a site that explains it =D

1. Download Driver & File Explorer.
2. Uncompress SAMSUNG_Composite_USB_Driver_4_34_WHQL.zip and execute Setup.exe.
3. Connect F480 to PC. First time you should be prompted with a 'device installed and ready' message.
4. Execute TkFileExplorer_2.2.exe
5. Go to Settings - COM.
6. Scroll down Port window: You should get just one COMxx option. Choose it and press OK.
7. Go to File - Connect. You should get the F480 File System Tree at TkFileExplorer bottom half side.
8. Go to /Exe/Java/Games
9. Create a New Folder for your game
10. At TkFileExplorer PC upper side select game JAD/JAR files and copy to F480 created folder using drag&drop or right button menu Download option.
11. Repeat steps 9 & 10 for all games you want to install at a time.
12. Disconnect USB cable
13. Dial *#6984125*#
14. Go to Internals (Master Key: *#9072641*#)
15. Go to Storage Settings and select Update Java DB

Enjoy! ...and save money!

NOTE 1:
You do not need to change Samsung USB mode to Qualcomm. Leave it at its default Samsung mode (if you do not understand this just do nothing )
NOTE 2:
Once driver is installed, Samsung PC Studio 3 still works.

After executing Sansung PC Studio 3 I needed to restart my F480 to have TkFileExplorer working again. Consider this if you get some connect problem.

I used the TKFileExplorer, and when i got to the port thing, there wasn't any "COMxx".
I used mass storage because not doing anything doesn't connect to my pc.

sometimes the network providers re-configure the phones they sell. as a result the admin set up code to unlock java games could be disabled. i recommend that u flash your phone. the code given here works for samsung f480. i have followed the step rendered here and it worked. before it failed but then, i then flashed my phone ,now, all is fine.

I have been watching this thread for so long. I have several problems here.

1. I don't have data cable (if anyone has a spare one )
2. I'm connecting my SGH-F480V to PC via Bluetooth but the 'TKFileExplorer' doesn't work with Bluetooth connection I guess
3. Was trying to access the 'Admin Settings' using *#6984125*# but nothing happened

I'm dying to install games on my mobile with no luck . Any help will be much appreciated

The samsung phone is locked to prevent other java games from being played other than the one you buy from them.

Here is the method:
1. Open tkexplorer, go to settings on top,and choose COM.On port,choose port that is visible (if already port is is visible like,Port 5 ,etc ;leave it it)
Dont be connected to the phone with pc studio program
2.Click on file and Connect .
3.On bottom left of tkfile explorer,browse through these folders:Exe/Java/Games.
Now go to your C drive or D drive and create a folder of the game you wish to play in your mobile and put both jar and jad files of the game in it.
4.Go back to Tkfile explorer and browse in the top left section showing c and d drive for that location where you have made the game folder .
Now right click it and select Download.
It will download it to the game section of your mobile.
Disconnect the phone in File-Disconnect.
5. dial the following -*#6984125*#
Choose internals and enter the following-*#9072641*#
Scroll down and select Storage settings.Then select Update Java DB then, Update Apps Database.
Finish
Go to app/games in ur mob and enjoy ur game.

..you all are just talkin' 'bout the F480i...not f480..!!!...'cos the "TkFileExplorer" works only with F480...but it doesn't with F480i!!!!...there's no guide or application for F480i yet!!! ....The phones use a different OS system!!!..so these are two different things!! ...Samsung just gave a big limit with F480i..but I still ask myself why!!! ...

hi guys, real excited about getting all these jad files and jar files i have onto my phone, and i have the tkexplorer, but i have 3 port options in the 'settings-COM' menu instead of one, they are 12, 13 and 3. when i select each one and hit 'connect;
port 12 seems to try to connect, but ends up saying 'connection lost'.
port 13 crashes the program, and port 3 says 'can't connect/try again'.

any one got a fix?

-Step 14: I put the master key but there is no way to save / exit from the key pad editor - the Done button seems to be disable ( even it looks enabled )
